Precarn - Intelligent Systems' Number 99 ?
February 2005 - Randy Goebel thinks so. And, being a first-rate technical expert, with an international reputation for excellence and a passion for bettering Canada's place on the world R&D stage, makes him a force to listen to.
Vladimir Tucakov - Digital Picture Perfect
February 2005 - He started out just over a decade ago as a promising computer science student at Brock University. A couple of degrees and a great deal experience and drive has taken him to determining the direction of a 27 person start-up shipping advanced digital cameras world wide.
Small Company. Big Business. Precarn Involvement.
November 2004 - Nearly $15 million in sales and more to come. This is the story for Ottawa-based Neptec Design Group and their innovative laser camera technology. With solid market research as justification, Precarn provided support to Neptec, McGill University and the Canadian Space Agency, to develop the Advanced Laser Camera System, an enhancement of an existing space based 3D scanning system developed in an earlier Precarn project.
Baader-Canpolar Inc. - The Inspektor
November 2004 - Persistence does pay off! Initiated in 1986, the Parasensor project was funded by Precarn from 1996 to 1998. The commercial product, The Inspektor, debuted in 2002.
It Takes a Network to Raise an SME ( ... or at least it helps!)
November 2004 - The value of a national intelligent systems research network can be summed up in one word: C-CORE. This Newfoundland corporation came to expand its research offerings, foster spin-off companies and create positions for highly qualified personnel, through participation in the Precarn network.
Autonomous Space Robotics - A Technological and Commercial Success Story
November 2004 - In March 2002, MD Robotics won a key contract for robotic systems in space based on a number of the technologies developed under the Precarn-funded ROSA project. ROSA (Remote Operations with Supervised Autonomy) provides key baseline technology - ground segment, vision system, and visual servoing - for the Orbital Express (US DARPA) contract.
Digital Mapping Toolset
November 2003 - One of the determinants of success in a scientific endeavour is proving a hypothesis, and that was just the case with the FIFEDOM team. "We have taken a long-believed theory and proven its viability in practice," said Harold Zwick, Engineering Manager, Research & Development, at MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd.
Jamie King, Intrignia Solutions Inc. - Entrepreneurship at its best
October 2003 - An electrical engineer who conducted IRIS-funded graduate research on multiple-robot control systems at C-CORE, Jamie King is the founder and president of Intrignia Solutions, Inc.
Motion Metrics Inc. - A prime example of the IRIS cycle
October 2003 - Motion Metrics Inc., a high-tech engineering consulting and product development company, develops monitoring, fault detection and control solutions for industrial robotic systems, and is involved in various R &D projects on heavy-duty hydraulic manipulators such as excavators and face shovels.
